Before the disappointing final act, which involves a huge gas tanker explosion that leaves Mun blind once more – there are two fantastic scares. At her Grandma’s apartment block, Mun goes to get into a lift and sees an old man (Sungwen Cummee) standing in the corner, who does not appear on the CCTV above . Sensibly, she waits for the other lift instead, then checks it is empty – properly empty. Once inside, her eyes widen, her vision sharpens and he’s suddenly behind her. What follows is excruciatingly tense , with the floor counter clicking upwards and Mun trying not to panic as the old man glides past her, his feet not touching the floor. When he spins towards her, we see that half his face is missing – either a fantastic special effect or an extremely crass bit of casting – and she flees the lift before he can get her.

The next is more reflective. As Dr Lo and Mun travel by train, the window looks out on the blue-grey gloaming behind them. When they enter a tunnel, and the window goes black, we see a staring face reflected back , which leaches away with the next burst of sky. Hong Kong, it seems, is a city full of ghosts, if only people stopped to notice.
